This Weekend...The Bishop's Wife!

Season’s greetings from all of us at the Stone Church Players! This weekend don’t miss SCP’s annual radio play, a holiday tradition!. This year we are thrilled to introduce a new show to our repertoire, “The Bishop’s Wife”, the classic story made famous by Carey Grant and Loretta Young that shows us the value of doing the right thing. Performances will be held Saturday, December 2nd at 8 pm and Sunday December 3rd at 2 pm. Directed by Artistic Director Michael McClellan of Long Branch, the event will feature Musical Director Mike Kabash of Rumson on piano. The cast includes 7 wonderfully talented actors who have all performed in past SCP productions.

John Paul Durazzo of Atlantic Highlands leads the cast as Dudley, an angel sent from Heaven in answer to Bishop Henry Brougham’s prayers. Mr Durazzo was last seen as Reverend John Hale in September’s production of “The Crucible”. The bishop is played by SCP veteran David Beil of Middletown, returning to the SCP stage for the first time in two years. He was last seen as George Bailey in the 2021 radio presentation of “It’s a Wonderful Life”. Marcy Zieve of Howell voices Julia Brougham, the bishop’s kindly wife. She was last seen as Marmee March in our 2021 production of “Little Women”.

The show features a very talented ensemble cast voicing multiple parts. SCP veterans Cynthia Dannen of Rumson (“Once Upon a Mattress,” “Jesus Christ Superstar,” and “Our Town,” among others), Jesse R. Luciani of Red Bank (“Macbeth,” “Hamlet,” and “Miracle on 34th Street”), and Lizzy Stefanic of Middletown (“Hamlet,” “Little Women,” and “Much Ado About Nothing”) are joined by newcomer Mariya Maister of Old Bridge (“Macbeth”).

Show synopsis (from Turner Classic Movies): Based on the novella “The Bishop's Wife” by Robert Nathan, an angel helps set an ambitious bishop on the right track.
